Oh what a beauty Badcaul was. And so much fun to knit. I was zooming along, loving every stitch. I sat in my glider watching a movie with the kids last weekend and completed the heel ala Priscilla Gibson Roberts' short row heel method, and it was stunning. That is until I realized that foot was way too big! Where did I go wrong? I did all my calculations correct, right? I got out my notes, where I did the math to alter the length of the foot to compensate my sock pal's feet. Apparently I should not do math late at night. 'Nuff said. My calculations to increase the circumference, spot on. The easy calculation, the length...waaaaay off.
So I attempted to rip back past the heel (imagine me wincing in obvious pain as I did this) I figured I could just pick up the stitches again and re do the heel, but the fiber gods had other plans. The stitches were impossible to pick up. I ended up losing 10 or more rows trying to pick up those live stitches before I realized two things.... 1) a knitting life line is priceless, and I should use them more often and 2) There was absolutely no way I was going to get these stitches back on the needle without wasting multiple hours. I'm a wuss. I gave up. I pulled it all out. I wound the Nature's Palette back into a ball. I cried (ok, not really, but I wanted to)
So I casted on a pair of Retro Rib socks from Interweave Knits - Fall 2004 with some Kroy Socks 4ply that Paula gave me last fall (stained glass colorway) This sock has been mostly knit in the car and late night tv watching..I can't believe the progress. But do you notice anything? There is NO WAY I'm going to finish this sock with one ball of yarn, despite following the pattern to the letter, which calls for only two balls for a pair.
If you couldn't tell, I'm feeling a little defeated in my sock knitting adventures lately.
The move is progressing. We're moving more than half our stuff this weekend. The kids and I anticipate joining Richard at the new house, with any luck, next weekend. If I hadn't already told Tracy that I would care for Ryan on her first week back to work, I would just say, what the heck and we'd all be moving to Syracuse this weekend.
But we have everything done for the move (utilities, truck rental, etc) All I need to do yet is the paperwork for the kid's new school. Oh...and buy a new stove.
I am not moving again, at least any time soon. And even if its only across town and five years from now. I'm hiring someone to move us. Hell...I'll splurge and have them pack for me too!
Am glad things are a head up on this move. I felt so bad for you last time.

Argh, sorry to read about your sock problems. Hopefully the third time will be the charm!
My husband and I moved 3 times in 2004, so I feel your moving pains. We decided that next time, we're getting movers for sure.
